Error 778 - It was not possible to verify the identity of the server.


This error is usually associated with VPN's and PPPoE (DSL) connections, where you can make the initial connection, but you cannot verify the identify of the remote server..

This is usually a 802.1x/EAP/Certificate/incorrect authentication mechanism error. This could be caused by your Network/Server admin changing the way they authenticate users (ie: changing from certificates to 802.1x, new radius/ldap authentication server, etc..

As the user, make sure nothing in your connection settings have changed (very easy to accidentally checkmark something).
You can uninstall your VPN/Connection, reboot and reinstall if you have the CD/software and try it again.

If you are still having issues, you might want to contact your Helpdesk and have one of the server guys watch the logs as you are connecting and see if they see anything odd/unusual.
